Highlights: The influent, pretreated by septic tanks, exhibited COD ≥300 mg/L, ammonia nitrogen ≥30 mg/L, black coloration, and foul odor, representing a typical black-odorous water.

The ceramic membrane MBR process ultimately adopted demonstrates technical advantages over traditional methods, including simplified process flow, compact footprint, low operational and maintenance costs, reduced residual sludge production, and long-term stable and compliant effluent quality.
